Well, I don't know what to say, seeing as to how I just created this.  Perhaps, it will all be explained if I just say: Chicken, Курица, Gallina, Poulet.

Ah, but as I understand it the spelling and pronunciation is quite different. Your grandmother's name is Galina, correct? It is spelled with the letter L, but, Gallina is spelled with the letter Ll, whose sound is quite different than L. In spanish we have L and Ll. So the Ll in Gallina sounds like, Ga-jee-nah, not Ga-li-na.
